Sir Laurens Van der Post was a 20th century Afrikaner author, farmer, war hero, political adviser to British heads of government, close friend of Prince Charles, godfather of Prince William, educator, journalist, humanitarian, philosopher, explorer, and conservationist. Two major Hollywood films based on his writings, A Faraway Place and Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence, were released in the U.S. He was awarded a knighthood (the C.B.E.) in 1981. Sir Laurens passed away in December 1996 shortly after his 90th birthday. You will surely be inspired by these deep descriptions of Van der Post’s most amazing life.
