Sacred Centers is a community of individuals dedicated to personal growth and cultural evolution. Its community forms organically from the workshop experience and the desire to keep that feeling alive after the workshop. The students and graduates of the Sacred Centers Certification Program form Sacred Kin-doms in their own area, where they conduct healing practices, teach classes and workshops, or whole community events.

The aim of Sacred Centers is to restore connection with the sacredness of life through returning to spiritual practices such as yoga, meditation, healing, ritual, trance, poetry, art, music and dance. This occurs through deeper contact and connection with ourselves, each other, and the web of life. We feel that periodically touching into sacred space, whether it is daily, weekly, or seasonally, informs all other actions in the mundane world and makes a more meaningful and effective. At a time when the world seems to be falling apart, we seek ways to come together, to find a common ground, are universal spirit, and contribute to the awakened global heart.

On the first day of every month we sit at the same moment for five minutes with thousands of others in the worldwide meditation and visualization. Many of us have already experienced the deep nourishment that comes with sitting in circle. Imagine hundreds, thousands, even millions of people all over the world sitting regularly at the same instant, once each month in dynamic friendship. Even though we are not physically together, we know that a shared intention is a powerful force even at a physical distance. We are convinced some surprises beyond our imaginings are in store for all of us as we make this commitment.

Join with others to visualize dynamic harmony within the human species. We say “dynamic harmony” because we are an active species, so the harmony must be a dynamic one, as we actively move more deeply in rapport with our environment with each other, with other animals, with the plants, and with the planet. Together we commit to using this moment of prayer and meditation to focus on new levels of kindness, understanding, and compassion that are needed today as we collectively face the challenges of the 21st century.

Please bring your own form of practice to this circle. We encourage participation to come from the widest possible religious, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds in order to bring the strength of diversity to our circle.

The circle represents the cross-cultural symbol of unity. In fact, humanity, as it is dispersed around the planet, is always in circle. If we could be seen from space, we would appear from any angle, to be in circle all the time. Earth Circle is a conscious recognition of that truth. The key is to keep it simple and short so that everyone is able to participate, since some people will be at their jobs and may not be able to take a longer break. For others it may be three or four o’clock in the morning. Most of us, though, can manage five minutes once a month, whatever our circumstances.

We at New Dimensions Radio commit to sitting quietly at a specified time on the first day of each month. (If you are in certain parts of Australia and Asia, it would be the second day of each month because of the International Date Line.) We suggest that this Earth Circle happen at 4:00 p.m. Greenwich Time, which would be 11:00 a.m. in New York, 10:00 a.m. in Chicago, 9:00 a.m. in Denver, 8:00 a.m. in San Francisco, etc. (See the list below.).

Five minutes may seem a short time; some may choose to sit for longer—and that is fine. The most important aspect is the intention and motivation that we bring to benefit all life on the planet. Sitting for five minutes with the intention of deep healing for the planet and all its people is powerful forum. We suggest you calculate the starting time for your location by using the chart below. Put a little heart on your calendar and a note on your bathroom mirror and refrigerator. It is difficult to start a new habit so figure out ways to remind each other—Partner with someone and call one another just before the end of the month as a reminder.

Join Us in a Monthly Earth Circle! Let others know — copy this article, put it in other newsletters and magazines, and let us know that you are joining us!

4 PM Greenwich Mean Time

We chose this time on the first day of each month to allow most major populated areas to avoid middle-of-the-night times. For those who change your clocks for Daylight Savings Time or British Summer Time, please disregard the time change and continue sitting at the old time throughout the summer, to remain consistent with Greenwich Mean Time, which never changes. The chart below gives times for sample locations around the world.

Our  Team

Justine Toms, D.H.L.

Co-Founder, Executive Director and Host

Since 1973, Justine Willis Toms has been exploring personal, social, and spiritual transformation through her work as an electronic journalist, editor, and writer.  She is the Co-founder, Managing Producer, and Host of New Dimensions Radio/Media.  New Dimensions is an internationally syndicated radio series, featuring dialogues addressing “the history of the future” with the world’s most visionary wisdom leaders. She has also hosted the radio series In Her Company: Deep Dialogues with Women of Wisdom, and has produced many award-winning radio series, including Deep Ecology for the 21st Century, and Bioneers: Revolution From the Heart of Nature. Besides her radio work, she leads workshops on Finding Grace in a Chaotic World.  She is coauthor with Michael Toms of True Work: Doing What You Love and Loving What You Do, and author of Small Pleasures: Finding Grace in a Chaotic World. She, along with Michael Toms, was selected for induction to the 2011 Broadcasters Hall of Fame.

Justine shares:

It is a basic truth that when we are listened to with sensitivity we tend to listen to ourselves more deeply. This, for me, is what repeatedly occurs on New Dimensions. As host of New Dimensions, I strive to listen deeply to my guest and when I do that I am changed by the experience. I am expanded and deepened by the process. It’s a spiritual practice for me.

I come to an interview with a great deal of preparation. I sometimes have 30 pages of single-spaced typewritten notes. But once I’m in the interview, all that is put aside and I attempt to follow the thread of what is being said. I do my best to allow the conversation to lead me. It feels like spirit is leading the way to deepening wisdom. It highlights, for me, the question of why we are here and what our contribution may be toward goodness and beauty.

Justine is a founding convener of the Millionth Circle Initiative and has been actively involved in circle work since 1980, including being a founding member of a mixed circle of men and women who have been meeting regularly since 1980. This circle has been witness to all the life cycles, including birth and death and everything in-between. She also participates in other circles, including several women’s circles. In June 2004, she was one of thirty people in the world invited to participate in the Synthesis Dialogues with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

What others say about Justine Willis Toms

My interview with Justine Willis Toms for New Dimensions Radio was the best experience I have had on radio or TV. I was so appreciative of her thoughtful questions and how carefully she had read the book. She made wonderful contributions and helped me develop my ideas perfectly.

Charlotte Gordon, Ph.D. Author: The Woman Who Named God:
Abraham’s Dilemma and the Birth of Three Faiths

Justine Toms is one of a handful of truly exceptional interviewers who I always feel excited and privileged to be in conversation with. I’ve been interviewed at least a thousand times over the past 30 years, and it’s a rare experience to feel like your very best gets drawn out. Justine is extraordinarily well prepared, deeply insightful, and a marvelous thinking partner. The lively and respectful field she creates is a gift for us all.

Joan Borysenko, Ph.D., pioneer in integrative medicine, teacher, author of
It’s Not the End of the World: Developing Resilience in Times of Change

It makes a big difference, as an author, to be interviewed by someone who has not just read the book but actually connected with the subject matter especially when we are talking about something which is so important in the world right now. As an interviewer, Justine Willis Toms is deeply prepared.

Arianna Huffington, author of Thrive The Third Metric to Redefining Success
and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom, and Wonder

One of the great delights of my writing life was being interviewed by Justine Willis Toms: I’ve rarely felt as thoroughly heard. Much of the warmth and intelligence I encountered during that hour and half shines through the pages of her book
