A Favorite Quote From A New Dimensions Guest: Cathy Wild

Make good by standing place.

                                    Cathy Wild’s father

“When I was a child my father said to me, “Make good by standing place.” This idea came from Archimedes, who was a Greek mathematician and a leading scientist in the classical age. He said, “Give me a place to stand, and a lever long enough, and I will move the world.” What I love about this quote is, even if you have talent and tools, what’s really important is that place to stand because without it you can’t make a difference in the world. And when my father explained that to me it affected the rest of my life. He wanted to make sure that I stood for something in this world. As I look back on that, I realize that it has shaped my entire life. I think that I wouldn’t have gotten as far; I wouldn’t have been inspired in my work or to write the book without that concept of standing place that my father taught me.”
