“Legendary BBC broadcaster Alistair Cooke once said, “I prefer radio to TV because the pictures are better”. Now with podcasts we can have that experience from our phone or computer as well. But there is something so satisfying about tuning in the radio and catching a show being aired. Maybe it’s a retro thing or maybe it’s sensing that I am a part of a congregation of people who are taking in this same information at the same time. I so appreciate a good program on public radio that keeps my attention and informs me, and all the while allows me to continue to do whatever else I’m doing like driving a car, or doing dishes, or gardening and still have my brain being stimulated.
But sometimes I want to sit down and pay attention because the content is many-layered. I find most New Dimension broadcasts call for my full attention. Here in Hawaii New Dimensions comes on the radio at 11:00 on Sunday morning. It is my church. I make my latte and get comfy on the lanai and settle in for the hour. Because I trust the content and the quality of the interviews, I find it rather like pulling a tarot card. The information that day is so often just what I need to hear. Knowing I am listening at that moment with a whole group of other people across the islands feels hopeful on this journey of evolving consciousness.”
