I’ve had the enormous privilege to spend time for rest and recuperation at Yosemite National Park. In these turbulent and threshold times I find such a noble and awesome landscape a balm to my soul.
Stately as ever, El Capitan’s granite rock face ceaselessly continues in its watchful stillness, guarding the entrance to the valley. Half-Dome perseveres across the ages as its mirror smooth face shines like a beacon in the reflection of the full moon. Happy Isles without fail continues to gurgle and burble joyfully on its way to the sea. Serenity prevails…no cares, no hustle-bustle, no computers, very few cars. Even the bears amble unhurriedly through the seasons as they’ve done for centuries. All is well in this pristine natural cathedral.
Taking time out to be in nature never fails to refresh and renew me on some deep level. It helps to slow me down, gives me a moment to pause to be ever grateful for my life, my friends, and my work.
Is there a place you love; a spot that never fails to renew your spirit as Yosemite does for me? Did you just sigh a deep sigh; is there a smile on your face as you think of it? If so, when was the last time you sojourned to that natural ground of your heart? Is it time to schedule a weekend, a week, or a month in a place that nurtures your soul?
