Today I found myself searching for two items that are important to me, but I simply could not locate either of them.
After spending some time looking and beginning to feel frustrated, I paused and silently asked my guides to help me find them. Almost immediately, I found both items—but only after making that quiet request to my invisible team of helpers. Once I asked, I received an intuitive nudge to look in specific places. The guidance came, as spiritual counselor Sonia Choquette describes, “as subtle as the brush of a butterfly’s wing.”
The first item was my prescription reading glasses. I usually keep them on a chain around my neck, but this afternoon they had slipped off. After searching everywhere—even my car—I asked my guides for help. Instantly, I saw an image in my mind of a chair in my living room. I sat in the chair, looked down to my left, and there they were on the floor.
The second item was my notebook, which I keep on my desk with my daily to-do list. It had seemingly disappeared, despite my repeated efforts to find it. When I asked my guides for assistance, I heard a gentle inner prompting to look again in a particular place—and there it was.
My late partner, Michael Toms, did not have a knack for finding things. For example, he might be in the kitchen looking for the mustard in the refrigerator and say, “Justine, I can’t find the mustard.” Then I would look and see it right there on the top shelf. I believe what was missing for him was the ability to visualize what he was looking for in his mind’s eye. Without that inner picture, it can be much harder to recognize what is right in front of us.
In my experience, creating a clear mental image of what you are seeking can be immensely helpful. Guidance may come in many forms: a visual impression, a felt sense of direction, words heard internally, or something else entirely.
As you begin to understand how your guides communicate with you, it becomes easier to recognize and trust that guidance.
Some people also call upon Saint Anthony, traditionally known as the patron saint of lost items. This can be quite effective as well. A simple prayer might be: “Let me find what I have lost, thus showing me the presence of your goodness.”
Our spirit guides are ready to help—we simply have to ask. Try it and see what happens.
