If you want to understand what’s most important to a society, don’t examine its art or literature. Simply look at its biggest buildings.
Joseph Campbell (1904-1987) American scholar specializing in
comparative mythology and religion.
“Campbell said this more than 40 years ago. At that time the biggest buildings were dedicated to business. Prior to that it was the churches which were the biggest buildings. I think the biggest buildings now are the data centers. In the past year they were probably the Amazon hubs of distribution centers.”

He drew a circle that shut me out-
Heretic, rebel, a thing to flout.
But love and I had the wit to win:
We drew a circle and took him In!
Edwin Markham (1852-1940) Poet Laureate of Oregon
“This was a poem that my 10th-grade teacher shared with us in English class, and I have never forgotten it. I can still do it by heart, because it feels fitting for right now. I think that there’s a little bit of nuance here, especially when it says, ‘love and I had the wit to win.’ I’m incredibly competitive and this reminds me that having to win becomes inconsequential when we draw “a circle and took him In.’”
