THE NEED HAS NEVER BEEN GREATER

The COVID-19 virus and its resulting in ‘shelter-in-place’ and closing of businesses has created a great demand for online ‘what to do while homebound’. One would think this would increase both the downloads of the many programs on the New Dimensions website as well as donations. However, since the onset of this pandemic, donations to New Dimensions have fallen through the floor. Government programs to keep New Dimensions’ teammates employed are receiving a flood of applications. I am endeavoring to apply for a PPP loan (payroll protection program through the Small Business Administration). But, as you are no doubt aware,

It is only in relationship to other bodies and many somebodies that anybody’s somebody. James Boggs (1919-1993) a political activist and author of The American Revolution: Pages from a Negro Worker’s Notebook  This is a quote by James Boggs. He and his wife Grace Lee Boggs were the center of the Boggs Center in Detroit, Michigan and their work over the years has been a source of inspiration for me. They’ve been part of the Black Power Movement in Detroit and, specifically, looking at how African Americans not only can contest for power but can start building power and building

The Public Purpose Of Art with Arlene Goldbard

We’re on the cusp of a paradigm shift, a radical change in worldview that will thrust art and culture onto center stage. What does that mean? How will the world be different? What is the rising spirit of the times and how is it being expressed in art? Arlene Goldbard says, “I have this overwhelming image of energy gathering force and taking shape.” She likens this force to a wave and says, “No one masterminds a wave, ordering all the drops of water into line. Many independent forces operate simultaneously – wind, gravity, disturbances of all kinds – and somehow, the wave mounts.” In

A Favorite Quote from a New Dimensions Guest : Robert Atkinson, Ph.D.

A thought I have long and faithfully entertained of the unity of the human race, not only in its biology, but also in its spiritual history which has everywhere unfolded in the manner of a single symphony with its themes irresistibly advancing to some kind of mighty climax. Joseph Campbell, mythologist and author of The Masks of God “When I was visiting Joseph Campbell in his home, he gave me this book, The Masks of God: Creative Mythology. Thoughts to Get You Through The Night with Phil Cousineau

Phil Cousineau is a Renaissance man who has been able to maintain a wonder and awe about life which has stoked his creative fires for many decades. For him, the night is a companion for creativity. He describes how civilization arose from sitting around a fire in the night, “Before the [discovery of] fire, we were probably together for very short periods and living instinctually. But when we could stretch the day into the night and sit around a fire, we extended our use of language and probably monosyllabic communication turned into conversation. And when we were able to talk deep
