Are human beings capable of further development of the finest qualities of human nature? Are there beliefs and behaviors that can bring this about? Murphy is a cartographer for the unexplored territory of the body. In the same vein as William James and Abraham Maslow, Murphy extends the mapping to movement abilities, extraordinary vitality, changes in body structure, and miraculous healings, to name a few. “I’m taking a look at the whole spectrum of human possibilities and saying it looks like this might be the next stage of evolutionary adventure,” says Murphy. “It’s what we’re neglecting by focusing on purely technical progress.”
He is the author of The Future of the Body: Explorations Into the Further Evolution of Human Nature (Tarcher 1992).
