As a young fan and aficionado of science fiction, Dean Radin soon became intrigued by what seemed an odd paradox: The psychic phenomena presumed to be true by his favorite authors were readily ignored or dismissed by mainstream scientists. Radin was determined to resolve the challenge of fact or fiction. In this fascinating interview, Radin reveals the no-nonsense high-tech strategies used in his controlled laboratory experiments to amass extensive and irrefutable data that demonstrate these phenomena do indeed exist — remote viewing, distant healing, intuition, place memory, and more. Beyond establishing without question that these phenomena indeed exist, his latest research, according to Radin, is aimed at unveiling precisely how these phenomena work. “We’re looking for the causal mechanism,” says Radin. “We’re not dealing with something that looks like ordinary causality.” Radin is encouraged that the “invisible college” is waking up: “Interest among scientists is growing quickly, and it’s starting to become less invisible, and to take shape very quickly, especially in the medical world.” (hosted by Michael Toms)
Dean Radin, Ph.D. is senior scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences (IONS) and Volunteer Faculty in the Department of Psychology at Sonoma State University. He earned a BSEE degree in electrical engineering, magna cum laude with honors in physics, from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and then an M.S. in electrical engineering and a Ph.D. in psychology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. For a decade he worked on advanced telecommunications R&D at AT&T Bell Laboratories and GTE Laboratories. For over two decades he has been engaged in frontiers research on the nature of consciousness. Before joining the research staff at IONS in 2001, he held appointments at Princeton University, University of Edinburgh, University of Nevada, Interval Research Corporation, and SRI International.
His books include:
- The Conscious Universe: The Scientific Truth of Psychic Phenomena (HarperCollins 1997)
- Entangled Minds: Extrasensory Experiences in a Quantum Reality (Paraview Pocket Books 2006)
- Supernormal: Science, Yoga, and the Evidence for Extraordinary Psychic Abilities (Random House 2013)
